Popular New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) radio station The Hits has proudly supported the Sanitarium Weet-Bix™ Kids TRYathlon™ for more than 15 years and is gearing up to do it all over again for the 2024 – 2025 season.
The national series is a Kiwi classic and has iconic status as the biggest triathlon series in the world for children aged under 16. Aiming to inspire a future generation of Kiwi athletes, the event is inclusive of all sporting abilities, as participants swim, cycle, and run around age-appropriate courses. Entries are open now for the upcoming season.
Starting off with just 500 participants in 1992, the Sanitarium Weet-Bix™ Kids TRYathlon™ has become a schoolyard hit, with this season expected to see the 500,000th participant cross the finish line since its inception. Happening in 10 cities across the country, the Sanitarium Weet-Bix™ Kids TRYathlon™ encourages six to 15 year olds to get active and have fun, as they work towards achieving a physical activity goal.
The Hits will be cheering athletes on at each event, including The Hits’ local on-air crews and breakfast show hosts, Jono Pryor, Ben Boyce and Megan Papas.
Harriett Whiting, general manager of The Hits, says: “We’re stoked to see our talent immersed in the communities they connect with every day on air – the families, the schools, the wider community, our customers and of course, the kids! This partnership has stood the test of time simply because of the shared values between The Hits and Sanitarium.”
Peter Davis, Sanitarium National Marketing Manager NZ, says: “The Sanitarium Weet-Bix™ Kids TRYathlon™ began in 1992 and The Hits is such a key part of helping connect our communities. We can't do it alone and we're so grateful for the support of our sponsors and partners like New Zealand Media and Entertainment who help to bring the events to life. We're looking forward to another successful season seeing thousands more Kiwi kids give it their best.”
The Sanitarium Weet-Bix™ Kids TRYathlon™ events run from November 2024 until March 2025. Further details are available here.
