News Release 15 July 2021
Flava’s Old School Hip Hop and RnB launches in Whangarei on 106FM with 10,000 non-stop songs
New Zealand Media and Entertainment’s (NZME) Flava Radio station is bringing its “Old School Hip Hop and RnB” sound to Whangarei radio listeners.
Whangarei’s Flava fans have been able to listen on the free iHeartRadio App, but from Monday 19 July they’ll be able to tune in on 106FM with Coast FM moving to a new Northland wide frequency of 96.4FM.
“When we launched Flava’s Old School Hip Hop and RnB format last year we had in mind to bring Flava back to Whangarei. We’re very excited to see those plans come to fruition,” said NZME Chief Content Officer Mike McClung.
To celebrate the return of Flava, Whangarei listeners will be treated to 10,000 non-stop songs from its Old School Hip Hop and RnB playlist.
“Playing all of these tracks non-stop and back-to-back is the perfect warm-up for Flava’s Whangarei fans. Then it’ll be Flava “full-noise” with the boys from Sol3 Mio on Flava Breakfast and our daytime hosts Athena and Azura from 16 August,” said Flava Content Director Ross Flahive.
The move to broadcast across Whangarei is good news for Flava’s on-air team, who are celebrating one year of Flava’s Old School Hip Hop and RnB.
“Coming back home to Flava’s Whangarei fans on 106FM is just the best birthday present for all of us,” said Flava’s Drive Host Athena Angelou.
“The feedback we’re all still getting about the amazing songs we play is off the charts. So, now that we can have a whole bunch of Whangarei whanau joining all our fans on iHeartRadio is brilliant,” said Angelou.
Flava 106FM provides another option for Whangarei businesses to connect with Flava’s growing audiences.
“The move to just play the best Old School Hip Hop and RnB from the 1990s and 2000s has been an absolute winner for Flava’s audience and for our commercial partners. Flava’s listeners are incredibly loyal, and we know the new format will be a winner with listeners across Whangarei,” said NZME Regional Head of Sales Greg Turley.
Flava Old School, Hip Hop and RnB across Whangarei on 106FM from Monday 19 July and the free iHeartRadio app.
